My Favourite Restaurant

When I was a kid, I went on a vacation to France, Montpellier with my parents, my brothers and my sister. I’m the oldest sibling, so we were there with a bunch of kids.

We were loodking for a place to eat when my father said that he had found the best possible restaurant: Pirate Paradise.

Pirate Pradise is perfect for dinner with kids, you can order food or choose to bake your own steak. Also they have kid coctails in luminous glasses.

Also, they host a show every 30 minutes. A pirate flies trough the air and ends on the big boat. Real flames and loud cannon shots are not forgotten. If you are ever near Montpellier, you should really check this out!

My Favorite Dish: Spareribs

Ingredients: 8 servings

  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup fajita seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons Hungarian sweet paprika
  • 2 racks of pork spareribs, fat trimmed
  • 1 cup of beer
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tabelspoon honey
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon prepared brown mustard

Preparation:

  1. Mix the brown sugar, fajita seasoning, and paprika in a bowl. Rub both sides of the pork spareribs with the brown sugar mixture. Place the spareribs in a 9×13-inch baking pan; cover and refrigerate overnight.
  2. Preheat an oven to 250 degrees F (120 degrees C). Whisk together the beer, garlic, honey, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard in a bowl. Set aside.
  3. Tear off 2 large sheets of heavy duty aluminum foil and lay them shiny-side down. Place a rack of spareribs on each sheet, meaty-side up. Tear off 2 more sheets of foil and place them on top of the ribs, shiny-side up. Begin tightly folding the edges of the foil together to create a sealed packet. Just before sealing completely, divide the beer mixture evenly into each packet. Complete the seal. Place the packets side-by-side on an 11×14-inch baking sheet.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven until the ribs are very tender, 3 hours and 30 minutes to 4 hours. Carefully open each packet, and drain the drippings into a saucepan. You may only need the drippings from one packet. Set ribs aside. Simmer the drippings over medium-high heat until the sauce begins to thicken, about 5 minutes. Brush the thickened sauce over the ribs.
  5. Preheat the oven’s broiler and set the oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source.
  6. Place the ribs back into the oven and broil until the sauce is lightly caramelized, 5 to 7 minutes.

Did You Know?

Did you know that chocolate supplies may run out?

The popular treat is in real danger of going into shortage. For starters, prices of your favourite chocolate bars have in recent years been on the rise (or the bars have been shrinking in size) due to the growing global demand for cocoa. In addition, the additional demand from emerging mass markets such as China, India, Indonesia, Brazil and Russia mean there aren’t enough cacao trees to meet demand and the possibility of a supply shortfall could be on the way.

Did you know that Mcdonald’s burgers don’t actually rot?

You may have known this one already, but it’s not as gross as it sounds. The large surface area of McDonald’s burgers means that the burger loses its moisture very quickly. Moisture is required for mould to grow. It’s by this method that beef jerky is made. It’s still disturbing, though.

Did you know that a quarter of the world’s hazelnuts are used for nutella?

Nutella has become such a popular brand that 1 in 4 of every hazelnut on this planet makes its way into those jars of heavenly goodness. The demand for hazelnuts has grown so much that universities are trying to grow them in labs to fight against global shortages.

Did you know that Russia only classed beer as alcohol In 2011?

A hard one to wrap your head around. Before 2011, beer and any alcoholic beverage under 10% ABV was classified as a soft drink. It probably goes without saying that this couldn’t go on forever and Russia introduced legislation to control and limit the sale of beer to combat the issues of underage drinking and health.

Did you know that scientists can turn peanut butter into diamonds?

Scientists at the Bayerisches Geoinstitut in Germany have discovered that since peanut butter is so rich in carbon, it’s possible to turn simple Skippy into diamonds.

All you need is to extract the oxygen from the carbon dioxide found in the peanut spread, and then enact immense pressure on the carbon left behind.
